AAR Corp Opens 114,000-SF MRO Expansion at MIA

AAR Corp cut the ribbon on August 17 for a 114,000-square-foot expansion of its Airframe MRO hangar at Miami International Airport, adding three heavy maintenance bays that are expected to induct their first aircraft this autumn, according to AAR’s own newsroom and the Miami-Dade Aviation Department.

Why it matters

The facility itself is not the story. Miami-Dade County agreed back in 2023 to reimburse AAR for the roughly $50 million it cost to build the hangar, a private tenant’s construction bill picked up by the county that owns the airport under it. The addition brings 114,000 square feet of new hangar space adjacent to AAR’s existing MIA facility, a 33% increase in the site’s overall maintenance capacity, per AAR’s 2023 approval announcement. The anticipated construction cost was $50 million, which Miami-Dade County committed to reimburse over time. AAR says the expansion supports 200 new full-time jobs. Ryan Companies and HPM worked the project alongside AAR and MIA. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said at the ribbon-cutting, “I proudly congratulate AAR for its commitment and investment in infrastructure and job creation at MIA.”

What’s next

AAR expects to induct its first aircraft into the new bays this autumn, formally putting the added capacity to work on its narrowbody maintenance commitment.
