How we report
Sources linked on every story. Stories are drafted with AI and checked against the source.
Where stories come from
- Public records. Court dockets, county recorder and clerk filings, property appraiser and assessor data, building permits, SEC filings, and council and planning agendas.
- Data feeds. Open-data portals and statistical releases from agencies and data providers.
- Company announcements and press releases. Statements from developers, lenders, brokers and their PR firms. These are leads, not proof, and are labeled as company announcements.
- Other publications. News outlets that reported something first. We link to them, and we say when a story rests on an outlet's reporting alone.
Every story carries a label under its headline: Public record, Data feed or Company announcement, with a link to the original. A story that rests only on another outlet reads Reported by [outlet] with a link. Other outlets that covered the same event appear under Also reported by in the On the record box.
What we do with them
- We check figures against the source, and against a public record when one exists.
- We write our own text. We do not copy another outlet's wording, and an automated similarity check runs before publishing.
- We link to the original source on every story.
- A company announcement is never presented as independently confirmed. If we verify its figures from a record, the story carries both labels.
Stories are drafted with AI and checked against the source. More detail is in our editorial standards. Paid or arranged stories follow our sponsored content policy.
