Privacy policy

The American Developer is a news publication. We do not sell personal data, we do not run behavioural ad networks, and you do not need an account to read anything on this site.

What we collect

Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which stories people read. It records pages viewed, referrer, approximate location derived from your IP address, and device/browser type. Google Analytics sets cookies to do this. We do not use it to identify you personally, and we exclude our own team's traffic so it does not pollute the numbers.

Newsletter. If you sign up for The Daily Index, we store the email address you give us, the market you select, and the fact that you consented. That is it. We use it to send the newsletter and nothing else. Email is handled by Brevo, our email provider.

Coverage requests. If you use the "Request it" box on the For You page to ask us to cover a developer, market, or topic, we receive what you typed and, if you choose to add it, your name or company. We use it to decide what to cover and to follow up if you asked us to.

Your For You preferences. The markets, deal types, topics, and developers you pick on the For You page are stored in your own browser, on your device. They are not sent to us and we cannot see them. Clearing your browser storage erases them.

We do not collect payment details, we do not ask for your date of birth, and we do not build advertising profiles.

Who processes data for us

Three providers, each only for the job named: Google Analytics (site analytics), Brevo (newsletter delivery), and Netlify (hosting the site and receiving the coverage-request form). Each handles data under its own privacy terms. We do not share your data with anyone else, and we never sell it.

Your choices

Unsubscribe using the link at the bottom of any newsletter, and you are removed. You can also email us and we will do it for you.

Ask us to delete your data. Email hello@theamericandeveloper.com and we will delete what we hold about you, or tell you exactly what we hold if you would rather see it first.

Block analytics with any standard browser setting, extension, or Do Not Track/blocking tool. Nothing on this site stops working if you do.

Children

This is a trade publication for real estate professionals. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.

Changes

If we change what we collect, we will change this page and update the date below. We will not quietly start collecting something new.
