Amazon Adds $6B Data Center Campus in Shreveport, Louisiana

Amazon Web Services said Aug. 18 it will invest another $6 billion in a third Shreveport-area data center campus at Resilient Technology Park in west Shreveport, pushing its total Northwest Louisiana commitment to $18 billion just six months after its first announcement for the region. The new site joins two campuses already under construction in rural Caddo and Bossier parishes.

Why it matters

For construction firms, the number that matters most is 2,250, the construction jobs Amazon says the three-campus buildout will support across local contractors, skilled trades and suppliers. That work is not sequential. With one campus already under construction and a second breaking ground alongside a third now announced, general contractors and subcontractors in the Shreveport-Bossier market are looking at overlapping mobilizations rather than one project handing off to the next. Amazon is also self-funding the power and water buildout, up to $400 million in water and wastewater infrastructure and 200 megawatts of new solar capacity already online, which means utility and civil contractors get called before vertical construction starts. That sequencing, infrastructure first, shell second, is the template builders should expect on every hyperscale campus chasing power in a market like this one. It also reinforces the national pattern of data center capital following available power rather than the reverse.

Amazon’s new Shreveport campus adds $6 billion in investment on top of the $12 billion pledged in February, for an $18 billion regional total. The expansion adds 210 new direct jobs and an estimated 499 indirect jobs, bringing cumulative direct hiring across all three campuses to up to 750 positions once complete. Construction jobs across the buildout total up to 2,250. Amazon has committed up to $400 million to water and wastewater infrastructure serving all three sites and has already energized 200 megawatts of new solar capacity, enough for about 44,000 Louisiana homes. Louisiana Economic Development has not published a breakdown of state tax incentives tied to the new campus; Amazon has emphasized it is funding the energy and water infrastructure itself.

What’s next

Amazon has not given a completion date for the new Resilient Technology Park campus. The company has now expanded its Northwest Louisiana footprint twice in six months, first to $12 billion in February and now to $18 billion, a pace that suggests site selection and permitting are moving faster than the public incentive disclosures that usually accompany deals this size. Builders bidding into the region should expect the water and power infrastructure contracts to move first, with vertical data center construction following once those systems are in place.
