BD Hotels Opens Nora Hotel in West Palm Beach's NORA District

BD Hotels, the operator built by Sean MacPherson behind Hotel Chelsea in Manhattan and the Bowery Hotel downtown, has opened the 201 room Nora Hotel at 1135 North Railroad Avenue in West Palm Beach, anchoring the city’s NORA District. The hotel began welcoming guests this month after the property was developed by NDT Development, Place Projects and Wheelock Street Capital.

Why it matters

MacPherson’s downtown New York playbook, boutique scale, name chef and bar partners, design driven rooms, is now planted in West Palm Beach’s NORA District, a neighborhood branding bet by its developers that trades on the same initials as the hotel. A MacPherson property choosing the district over Palm Beach’s established hotel corridor signals outside operators see West Palm Beach’s urban core, not just the island across the Intracoastal, as the market worth building a flag in.

The numbers

The Nora Hotel has 201 keys, a mix that includes ADA accessible rooms, one bedroom suites and an executive suite. Food and beverage is split across three operators: Stephen Starr’s STARR Restaurants runs Jack’s Bar, a ground floor lobby bar, and Pastis, a Parisian style brasserie. Mama Hospitality runs the rooftop Lillys, which splits into Lillys Pool, Bar Lilly and Cafe Lilly. The hotel also houses the first Sisley Spa location in Florida, with four private treatment rooms, a co-ed steam room and an outdoor terrace.

What’s next

Watch whether the NORA District name sticks as a market identifier the way SoFla neighborhoods like Wynwood did, and whether STARR Restaurants and Mama Hospitality’s bets on the rooftop and street level programs pull foot traffic from Clematis Street and Palm Beach’s hotel row. The American Developer will track permitting and ownership records tied to 1135 North Railroad Avenue as they post to the Palm Beach County Property Appraiser.
