Arnie Sevell, Boca Raton P&Z Chair, Joins LQ Commercial

Arnold “Arnie” Sevell, a 40-year Boca Raton commercial broker who also chairs the city’s planning and zoning board, has joined LQ Commercial, extending the brokerage’s push up Florida’s east coast into Port St. Lucie, Daytona Beach and Jacksonville.

Sevell’s dual role is what agents should read closely here. He is a 20-year member and the current chair of Boca Raton’s seven-member Planning and Zoning Board, which votes on site plans, rezonings and comprehensive-plan amendments twice a month, according to the city’s own board listing. He is now also LQ Commercial’s newest producer, generating brokerage business across South Florida and up the coast. That combination is not wrongdoing. Boca Raton manages it through recusal on matters where a board member has a financial interest, not a ban on members holding private real estate jobs. But it is exactly the overlap a competing agent needs to see plainly: a sitting land-use official is now also a referral source for a brokerage expanding into new territory. The more durable signal for agents chasing new ground is geographic, not personal. LQ is betting on Port St. Lucie, Daytona Beach and Jacksonville, not another run at an already-crowded Miami core.

The numbers

LQ Commercial says Sevell has negotiated more than $500 million in transactions and directed development of 1 million square feet of commercial product over four decades in Florida CRE, figures the firm supplied and that are not independently audited. Florida Division of Corporations records confirm Sevell Realty Partners, Inc. as an active Boca Raton corporation, document number P98000086155, filed with the state on October 6, 1998, with Sevell as registered agent. Sevell told LQ, “The platform, reach, and commitment to doing business the right way aligned with everything I have stood for.”

What’s next

LQ has now added three named brokers, Sevell, Kimberly Kneier and Lynda Nagy, to its east coast build-out, and the firm says more hires are coming along the Atlantic corridor. For competing brokerages eyeing Port St. Lucie, Daytona Beach and Jacksonville, the question is whether they can match a recruit with two decades of standing inside a South Florida city hall. For Boca Raton, it is whether board minutes show consistent recusals now that Sevell’s brokerage book can overlap with matters that come before his board.
