OSHA Investigates Griffin's Citadel HQ After Brickell Collapse

The rig collapse at Ken Griffin’s Citadel headquarters in Brickell is now a federal matter. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the September 14 accident, and Miami-Dade has confirmed that all construction and operations at 1201 Brickell Bay Drive have ceased until the investigation is complete and accepted, The Real Deal reported September 21, citing the Wall Street Journal.

The $2.5 billion tower sits on a 2.5-acre site Griffin bought for $363 million in 2022. The rig fell during Monday morning traffic on September 14, striking three vehicles and sending four people to the hospital with what were described as minor injuries. An OSHA spokesperson told the Journal that such investigations can run up to six months but are often finished sooner.

Construction stays frozen until OSHA finishes its report and the county accepts it, with no date set for either. Related Companies says it is cooperating with city and county building departments, and contractor Keller says it is prioritizing worker and neighborhood safety.
