Lancium, Nvidia partner on gigawatt-scale AI data centers
The interconnect used to be the hard part. Now it's the power-management stack on top of it.
Lancium and Nvidia announced a partnership to deploy Nvidia’s DSX AI factory technology across Lancium’s site portfolio, which spans 4 gigawatts of capacity already under lease and more than 15 gigawatts of powered land in various stages of development. Nvidia is also making a strategic investment in Lancium, the Woodlands, Texas developer backed by Blackstone Energy Transition Partners and Blackstone Multi-Asset Investing. Neither company disclosed the investment amount.
Why it matters
For developers and contractors, this is a signal about what a gigawatt-scale construction package now includes. Lancium’s job stays land, interconnects, and behind-the-meter power, grid ties, on-site generation, and storage. Nvidia’s DSX reference designs and power-management software layer on top of that, meaning the electrical and mechanical scope on these campuses is being standardized around one vendor’s stack rather than engineered site by site. DSX MaxLPS is built to fit up to 40 percent more GPUs into the same power budget, and DSX Flex lets a facility flex its draw with grid conditions rather than requiring a fixed, worst-case interconnect. That changes the substation and switchgear sizing conversation contractors bid against. It also confirms the division of labor already visible at Lancium’s Childress, Texas site: the landowner-developer handles power and civil work, while an operating partner like Crusoe or QTS builds and runs the data halls.
The numbers
Lancium’s current book: 4 GW leased, more than 15 GW of powered land in the pipeline. Named campuses in that pipeline include a 1.2 GW site near Abilene that Crusoe is developing for OpenAI’s Stargate project, the 1.0 GW Childress County campus with Crusoe, and a new campus in Hall County, Texas, near Turkey, that QTS is designing and will build and operate, with battery storage and solar planned on site. Lancium raised $600 million in debt financing in 2025 to fund this buildout.
What’s next
Lancium and Nvidia did not name a deployment timeline or set a dollar figure on the Nvidia investment. The next marker to watch is Hall County, where QTS’s design work is the first test of the DSX stack outside the existing Crusoe-run campuses.
