- Public record
Oakland’s City Council is scheduled to take up the final reading on Nov. 10 of an ordinance revising its S-8 combining zone, the local vehicle for Senate Bill 79 transit-oriented housing rules. Action on the item, file 27-0037, would be final passage. It is pending, and the council has not yet voted on the second reading.
Why it matters
The amendments to Planning Code Chapter 17.86 respond to comments from the California Department of Housing and Community Development, per the agenda. They also exclude additional industrial-zoned parcels previously marked ineligible for SB 79 standards, and update zoning-map designations showing which S-8 parcels are excluded. For developers near transit, the parcel list decides where SB 79 heights and densities can apply in Oakland. Related coverage sits on the San Francisco market hub.
