Race Rock breaks ground on Brookshire plant expansion in Waller County

The state filing covers the new building alone, which is why it shows a smaller figure than the company's campus-wide $100M.

Race Rock has broken ground on a new manufacturing building at its steel fabrication campus in Brookshire, Waller County, west of Houston. The company calls the project a $100M expansion that will grow the campus to 100 acres and 750,000 sq ft of interior space.

Read the numbers carefully: the state record verifies $60M of that, for the new building alone.

Why it matters

Race Rock makes steel structures for the utility, highway and energy markets, including transmission and substation structures. Its release says the new building adds up to 50,000 tons of annual production. That would bring the company to 150,000 tons of yearly capacity across its four plants.

For Houston-area steel erectors, site contractors and industrial brokers, this is a live job on the I-10 corridor west of Katy. The record lists a start date of Oct. 12, 2026.

The numbers

The existing Brookshire plant covers 32 acres and a 287,000 sq ft shop, per the company. Race Rock Infrastructure Holdco LLC registered the new building, named Brookshire South, with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation on Oct. 2, 2026. The TABS filing lists 34253 Wilson Rd and 483,881 sq ft of new construction. It describes a pre-engineered metal building on a greenfield site, with an estimated cost of $60,000,000.

The gap with the $100M figure is not a contradiction. A TABS filing covers the registered building’s construction cost and floor area. It excludes land, equipment and the existing plant next door.

Jobs figures vary by source. Race Rock’s release describes 200 or more new positions and a Brookshire workforce above 500 once the expansion is staffed. Bisnow reported the 500 figure as new jobs.

“Our commitment here is more than just the construction of a new manufacturing facility,” Race Rock CEO Donald Young said.

What’s next

The TABS filing lists an Aug. 9, 2027 completion date. Equipment, permit and hiring records should follow as the building rises.
