Loyola University Chicago holds a $162.0 million city building permit, issued July 24, for a new six-story building at 1144 W. Loyola Ave. in Rogers Park, according to city permit records.

Permit #101077810, issued under 2019 Chicago Building Code review, covers new construction of a six-story building over a basement, levels two through roof, near Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus. A related foundation permit, #101073042, already covers the foundation work below it. The $162 million figure is the applicant-stated construction cost on the permit, not a sale price or loan amount.

Power Construction Company is the general contractor. The permit is filed as construction type IB, with occupancy groups B, A-3 and S-1, covering business, assembly and storage use. The permit record does not name the building or its program.

Why it matters

At $162 million, the permit is a large institutional construction commitment for Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood. For the construction trade, it is a multi-year GC and architect assignment tied to a single owner. Power Construction holds the general contract, so subcontractors bidding structure, mechanical, electrical and finish packages would go through it. The declared valuation is the applicant’s construction estimate and can shift as the work is bid out.
