TxDOT registers $470M of IH 35 and SH 71 work near Austin

TxDOT’s Austin District registered $470,291,049 of road work on Sept. 29, 2026: $407,791,049 on IH 35 in Austin and $62,500,000 on SH 71 in Cedar Creek, per two TDLR TABS records.

Why it matters

For heavy-civil contractors and subs, the filings are an early signal of work coming to two corridors. For builders and developers with sites near Manor Road, 32nd Street, 51st Street or SH 71 at Cedar Creek, they point to construction nearby.

A registration is not a contract. It means the owner filed the project with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation for accessibility review. The record does not show a letting date or a winning bidder, and we did not confirm either on TxDOT’s site.

The numbers

• IH 35, Austin (Travis County): estimated cost $407,791,049. Scope: reconstruct IH 35 main lanes at Manor Road, 32nd Street and the frontage road at Concordia Avenue to 40th Street. It also covers partial reconstruction of the northbound frontage road from Manor to 51st Street, plus bridges, drainage, a shared-use path, intersections and a bypass lane at 51st Street with ramps.
• SH 71, Cedar Creek (Bastrop County): estimated cost $62,500,000. Scope: a 4-lane overpass with 2-lane eastbound and westbound frontage roads, including grading, paving, drainage, a bridge, retaining walls, culverts, signing, markings, illumination, ITS and traffic signals.
• Total: $470,291,049, the sum of the two estimates. Both list TxDOT Austin District as owner.

The SH 71 page shows a status of “Review Complete.” The IH 35 page shows “Project Registered.” Costs are the registrant’s estimate, not a bid or contract value.
