Cubs file $6.5M permit for new Wrigley Field drain system
Chicago issued a permit with a $6.5M reported cost for a new forced-air and drain system for the Wrigley Field playing surface.
The City of Chicago on Oct. 21 issued permit 101087623, with a $6.5 million reported cost, for a new forced-air and drain system for the Wrigley Field playing surface. The Chicago Cubs Baseball Club, LLC is owner of record and Shamrock Decorating Inc. is general contractor at 1060 W. Addison St.
The work description calls for a forced-air unit with ductwork to the field and to a furnace above the concourse. All new equipment goes beneath the stadium on the right-field side. Hill Mechanical holds the plumbing and ventilation work and Sievert Electric the electrical.
Why it matters
A new field drainage and aeration system at one of baseball’s oldest ballparks is routine off-season infrastructure work, the kind of project that rarely draws a press release but still runs through city permitting like any other renovation. The $6.5 million figure is the applicant’s declared project cost on the permit, not a confirmed construction budget, a sale price or a loan amount. For mechanical and electrical subs, it is a sizable job at a client that files permits year-round.
