D.R. Horton's Tamarron Reportedly Leads Houston Home Starts
The starts figure comes secondhand from a paywalled list; a separate sales count independently backs Tamarron's lead by a different measure.
D.R. Horton’s Tamarron, straddling Katy and Fulshear in Fort Bend County, reportedly recorded more new home starts than any other Houston-area master-planned community in the year ending in June. The figure, 1,102 starts, comes from a Houston Business Journal ranking that this desk could not reach directly behind its paywall. It is relayed here through Hoodline’s Oct. 9 writeup, cited as a secondary outlet, not as our own data.
Why it matters
Home starts measure how fast a community is actually building, a different signal than sales pace or lot sales to builders. A community leading Houston on starts tells other builders and land brokers where construction crews, subcontractors and building-material demand are concentrated right now, ahead of what a closing count would show months later. For a single-builder community like Tamarron, D.R. Horton controls that entire pipeline itself.
The numbers
The Business Journal’s list, as relayed by Hoodline, credits Tamarron with 1,102 home starts over the 12 months through June, ahead of every other Houston-area master-planned community. That figure is reported, not independently confirmed by this desk against the Business Journal’s own underlying data.
A separate measure corroborates Tamarron’s lead by a different yardstick. RCLCO’s midyear 2026 count, relayed by Houston Agent Magazine, put Tamarron at 594 home sales in the first half of 2026, up 16 percent from a year earlier and sixth-highest among master-planned communities nationally, also first among Houston-area communities at midyear. Bridgeland and Sunterra followed in that sales count. Starts and sales measure different stages of the same pipeline, so the two rankings should not be added together, but both point to Tamarron as Houston’s most active community this year.
D.R. Horton’s own listing confirms Tamarron is zoned to Katy ISD and Lamar CISD and is planned for more than 4,000 single-family homes at full buildout, a scale that explains why one community can lead both counts at once.
What’s next
Watch whether Tamarron also tops RCLCO’s full-year 2026 sales ranking when it publishes, which would pair a full-year sales title with the reported starts lead. For now, D.R. Horton’s buildout pace at Tamarron is the clearest marker of where Houston home construction is concentrated on the Fort Bend County side of the metro.
