Round Rock Weighs Eminent Domain to Widen Kenney Fort, CR 118
Public record Round Rock City Council Agenda
Round Rock's council votes Nov. 5 on eminent domain for two road and utility infrastructure construction projects, Kenney Fort Blvd and CR 118.
Round Rock’s City Council is set to vote Nov. 5 on three resolutions authorizing the city to use eminent domain for two projects: the Kenney Fort Boulevard Segment 5 widening and the CR 118 Road and Utility Improvements Project.
Two of the resolutions, agenda items 2026-266 and 2026-267, cover Kenney Fort Boulevard. One takes six parcels totaling 1.082 acres from the Estates of Settlers Park Owners Association, a homeowners association. The other takes 0.051 acre from a private landowner on the same corridor. The third, item 2026-271, covers CR 118. It seeks 0.976 acre in fee simple, a 0.551-acre wastewater easement and a 0.220-acre temporary construction easement from a single limited liability company landowner.
Why it matters
A condemnation resolution lets the city go to court to take the land if a negotiated purchase fails. Putting two corridors through that step at one meeting signals Round Rock wants right-of-way secured before construction on both. For builders and agents near either road, the resolutions are an early marker of where new capacity is coming and when.
The numbers
Three resolutions cover two projects. The Kenney Fort items span six parcels from one homeowners association plus a seventh interest from a private landowner. The CR 118 item adds fee-simple land, a wastewater easement and a temporary construction easement from one owner. Including the easements, the three items total about 2.9 acres.
What’s next
The Nov. 5 vote is pending, and nothing has been decided. A resolution authorizing eminent domain does not itself transfer title. The meeting minutes and vote record will show whether each passes as proposed.
